At Freck Funeral Chapel we work as a dual licensed 4-person team sharing both prep and directing responsibilities. Our team is supported by an office manager that handles phones, death certificates, memorial products and data entry. We have director assistants offering errand, hearse, procession parking, and service support. Visitations are covered by attendants. There is a nightly cleaning crew but cleaning is required during the day when a service ends. We are caretakers of not only the deceased but the families who trust us and our building.
We are a single location funeral home that serves approximately 300 families a year. Our community is diverse and requires a director comfortable working within various religious, ethnic, and socioeconomic settings. As owners, we think funeral directors need to work with strong boundaries both in the workplace and in their personal lives to protect the well-being and health of each individual. Although funeral service is hard, as managers our focus is to work to support our team by covering the nights and stepping in to keep everyone healthy.
Our schedule for directors follows office hours (9 am to 5 pm) as much as possible with no overnight calls, prep, and only occasionally taking ASD communication. Weekends are covered every other with three-day weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday on/off). Weekday call is the same on the weekend i.e., no removal, prep, phones after 5 p.m. The only exception to this schedule would be funeral services which can be scheduled at 6 pm. The person “on-call” would cover 6 pm services following Monday/Wednesday moving into the weekend on and Tues/Thursday moving into a weekend off schedule.
As lifelong learners, we are willing to teach as well as learn. We do believe in the dual-licensed art of funeral service but please do not let a strength in one area deter you from applying. Our team works best by encouraging a well-rounded professional but we also acknowledge individual comfort and skill.
