Notification of Death - John J. "Jack" Wasko

September 7, 2005

OFDA received word this morning about the death of John J. "Jack" Wasko, 73, a lifelong resident of Campbell, Ohio, passed away peacefully the night of Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, with his family at his side.

In 1958 he graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and completed his apprenticeship at the Shriver-Allison Funeral Home in Youngstown before joining the Putko-Rich-Wasko Funeral Home. In 1967, he became the proud owner of the Wasko Funeral Home, where he conducted several thousand funerals during his career, treating the funeral industry as a ministry rather than a business.

He leaves many accomplishments and precious memories to be shared by his wife, the former Betty Ann Fiffick, who he married Nov. 27, 1958; and his three children, Robert J. Wasko of Youngstown, Jacquelyn A. Wasko Shaw and her husband, Mark, of Campbell, and Bethanne Wasko of Poland, Ohio; a grandson, Ian Shaw of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Virginia Gorski, and Gladys Balas and her husband, Cy, all of Poland; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

The Wasko family requests that memorial contributions be made to the John "Jack" Wasko Athletic Scholarship Fund. Donations may be received at the funeral home, Wasko Funeral Home, 216 Coitsville Road, Campbell; or mailed to Athletic Scholarship Fund, 216 Coitsville Road, Campbell, Ohio 44405.
