Richard E. Miller

OFDA received word this afternoon that member Richard E. Miller, 88, lifetime resident of Jefferson until moving to Shaker Heights in 1993, died Friday, July 14, 2006 at his residence.

Mr. Miller graduated from Jefferson High School in 1935 and from the Cleveland College of Embalming in 1938. He became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer on May 17, 1939. He worked with his father until 1952 before becoming owner of the Miller Funeral Home and operated the business until his retirement in 1984.

Survivors include his wife, Alma (Gillman) Miller, two daughters, Barbara L. Miller and Judy M. Baber; two grandchildren, Derek & Laura Baber and a brother, Ralph R. (Jean) Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. and Ruth A. (Hoyt) Miller his first wife, Edith M. (Weaver) Miller in 1990, a son-in-law, David Baber, two brothers, John & Clarence W. Miller and a sister, Dorothy M. Avery.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 89 East Satin Street, Jefferson. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 12:30 1:45 PM at the Jefferson Home of the Fleming & Billman Funeral Directors (formerly Miller Funeral Home), 49 West Jefferson Street, Jefferson.
