Notification of Death - Donald Paul Swigart

April 14, 2007

OFDA received word this morning that Donald Paul Swigart, 83, of Canal Fulton died Saturday, April 14, 2007 at his home. Don was born in Canal Fulton, was a graduate of Canal Fulton High School, attended Capital, Denison and Columbia Universities. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and following the war, he graduated from Cleveland College of Mortuary Science and began working with his father, Paul, in the Swigart Funeral Home. From 1957 until 1989, Don owned and operated the funeral home with his wife, Jean. He also owned and operated Rack Coating Service, Canal Fulton from the early 1960's until the present.

Don was a life member of St John Lutheran Church, a member and twice past president of the Canal Fulton Rotary Club, and a member of VFW #9795. He served on the Northwest Local Board of Education from 1958 until 1970 and then for additional two terms on the Stark County Board of Education. He was a former member of the Western Stark County Mental Health Board, the Board of Directors of the former Exchange Bank Company and for many years had been a leader in the Boys Scouts of America.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Vera (Finefrock) Swigart and is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean Shook Swigart; children, Anita Swigart, Susan Swigart, and Jason Swigart; grandchildren, Nathan, Alison (fiance',Joe Finch) and Sam Winstel; brothers, Robert (Delores), Richard (Alice) and Glen (Rosanne) Swigart; special friends, Robert "Skip" Blowers and Mary Weisgarber. The family would also like to give special thanks for the love and care given by the staff of Aultman Hospice.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 18, 11:00 AM at the St. John Lutheran Church,
336 W. Market Street, Canal Fulton. Burial at Canal Fulton Union Cemetery, with military honors by VFW #9795. Visitation Tuesday, April 17, 5:00-8:00 PM at the Swigart-Easterling Funeral Home, 624 E. Cherry Street (Rt. 93, Canal Fulton) and Wednesday, one hour prior to time of service at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paul R. Swigart Rotary Scholarship or Aultman Hospice or St. John Lutheran Church, Canal Fulton.
