Notification of Death - John F. Schoedinger

June 23, 2007

OFDA received word this morning that John F. Schoedinger, age 93, died June 23, 2007. Mr. Schoedinger was Retired President of Schoedinger Funeral Service. Graduate of Cornell University in Mechanical Engineering. Elder and Past President of Trustees of Broad Street Presbyterian Church. Long-time breeder of Hereford cattle and Past President of Ohio Hereford Assn. As a conservationist, he owned and operated a tree farm in Hocking County for which he received the American Tree Farm Award. Past President of: Metropolitan YMCA, Franklin County Unit of American Cancer Society, Friendship House, Council of Westminster-Thurber Retirement Community and Central Ohio Funeral Directors Assn. Past Master of Goodale Lodge F.&A.M. Member: Columbus Club, Athletic Club, Scioto Country Club, S.O.F.A., Rotary Club of Columbus and Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Past Member of the Board of Directors of: Columbus Rotary Club, Better Business Bureau, Ohio Medical Indemnity and Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services. Inducted into the Central Ohio Business Hall of Fame in 1996, selected Jaycee Boss of the Year in 1970, and received the Central Ohio Outstanding Philanthropist Award in 2006.

Mr. Schoedinger was preceded in death by wife: Dr. Juliet Stanton Schoedinger, brother George R. Schoedinger, Jr. and granddaughter Julie Anne Schoedinger. Survived by sons and daughters-in-law: John A. (Jay) & Joyce Schoedinger, David S. & Jeanne Schoedinger and Steven P. Schoedinger; grandchildren: Laurie & Gardiner Porter, Michael & Lisa Schoedinger, Randy & Marcy Schoedinger, Kellie & Naeem Ali, Scott & Lisa Schoedinger, Christopher Schoedinger, D. Matthew & Emily Schoedinger, and Kevin Schoedinger; 15 great grandchildren; brothers Robert S. Schoedinger & William O. Schoedinger.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Broad Street Presbyterian Church, 760 East Broad Street. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 26 at the Schoedinger Mid-Town Chapel, 229 East State Street. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
