Obituary for William "Bill" Calhoun

Co-founder of Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home, Father of Byron Calhoun, Calhoun Funeral Home

William E. Calhoun, 75, was welcomed into the presence of the Lord on Friday, October 21, 2016. William “Bill” Calhoun, served the Akron community as one of the original co-founders of the Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home and Cremation Services. For more than fifty years, Mr. Calhoun took pride in caring for the families of the Akron community in times of bereavement. He loved the city of Akron and served on several boards and community organizations dedicated to improving and building our community, including the East Akron Community House, the Akron Girl Scout Council, the Chapel Hill Christian School Board, the NAACP, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Mount Calvary Lodge #76 Prince Hall Masons, Bezeleel Consistory #15, Al Kaf Shrine Temple #109 Imperial Council, Elks Pride of Rubbertown Lodge #112, and the Youth Motivation Task Force.

Bill Calhoun was married to Margaret Ann Carter Calhoun for more than 53 years. Together they have three children: Allison Calhoun Brown (Paul), Byron Calhoun (Alison) and Adina Calhoun Walker (Greg). He was the proud Papa of six grandchildren: Nyla, Joshua and Caleb Walker, Amaia Calhoun and Braxton and Aleah Brown. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Ira Joe and Minnie Belle Calhoun and brother Ira Joe “Joey” Calhoun Jr. He is survived by his older brother Ernest Calhoun Sr. (Lucille), sister Beverly Shuler, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Services will be held on Friday, October 28, at 11 am at the House of the Lord, 1650 Diagonal Road, Akron, Ohio 44320. Bishop Joey Johnson will bring the eulogy. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 27 from 12-8 at the Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home, and on Friday from 9-11, at the church, before the service.
