Obituary for Lou Schroder

Brother and Brother-in-Law to Anne and Scott Gilligan, OFDA Legal Counsel

Lou Schroder passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at age 69 – after a 3-month battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor.

A beloved husband and dad, fun-loving grandpa, caring brother, dedicated physician, and wonderful friend, Lou was loved by all who knew him. He was always quick with a kind word and a smile. A lifelong Cincinnati resident, he was a hematologist-oncologist at University of Cincinnati, and later at Oncology Hematology Care, until he retired to enjoy time with family and hobbies, including music, community theater, and tutoring.

Lou is survived by his wife of 45 years, Chris, and 4 children, Lauren (Naeem Yusuff), Kate (John Juech), Jim (Morli Desai), and Mike (Sara); 5 grandchildren: Zach & Lyla Yusuff, Josie & Peter Juech, and Ella Schroder; 6 siblings: Sally Schroder, Fran (Dick) Balch, Susie (Kristof) Lugowski, Mark (Mary) Schroder, Anne (Scott) Gilligan, John (Mamie) Schroder; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lou and Jean Schroder, and his sister, Connie (Pete Eastman).

A visitation will be held at Gilligan Funeral Home (2926 Woodburn Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45206; phone: 513-281-8311) on Friday, July 14, 5-8pm; the funeral service will be held at Bellarmine Chapel at Xavier University at 9:30am on Saturday, July 15. The burial will be private.
