Obituary for Shelly Ray Amburgey

Father of Jay Amburgey, OFDA Member

Shelly Ray Amburgey, age 83, of Mousie, KY, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017, at his home in Mousie, KY.

He was born in Larkslane, KY on March 3, 1934 to Alex Amburgey and Causetta Casebolt Amburgey.

Shelly graduated from Hindman High School and Morehead State University.

He was a 50+ year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Carpenter's Union, Kiwanis International and Knott County Chamber of Commerce. He was very active in the Democratic Party and held… numerous leadership positions in Ohio and Kentucky.

He is survived by his Wife: Cleo Derossett Amburgey; Son: Jay (Teresa) Amburgey; Daughter: Melissa (Mike) Kuns; Grandchildren: Darren Kuns, Meghan Caldwell, Amber Studlien, Taylor Amburgey; Great Grandchild: Quinn Caldwell; Stepdaughters: Tammy Derossett, Caroline Patrick; Step Grandchildren: Heather Wells, Mimmie Yost, Brandie Lyon; Step Great Grandchildren: Mia Yost, Cooper Lyon.

Shelly was preceded in death by his First Wife: Elaine (Oswalt) Amburgey; 7 Brothers: Irvin Amburgey, Homer Amburgey, Clyde Orville Amburgey, Bill Amburgey, James Rush Amburgey, Ed Amburgey and Lawrence Amburgey; and 1 Sister: Nancy Amburgey.

Funeral services for Shelly Ray Amburgey will be held at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11:00AM with Clyde Bud Wicker Jr., and Randall Short officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Memory Gardens at Hindman, KY.

Visitation will be held at the Chapel, Wednesday evening from 5-8PM with Masonic services Wednesday evening at 7PM.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
