Obituary for Jack A. Mitchener

Retired Sales Rep of Messenger Corporation, Uncle of Todd Ely, Sales Rep of Messenger Corporation

Jack A. Mitchener, age 78, of Auburn passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center at Fort Wayne.

Mr. Mitchener was born in Auburn on April 11, 1939, to Robert and Donna Louise (Carper) Mitchener. Jack was a 1957 graduate of Auburn High School. He married Mary Yingling on July 1, 1961, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn.

Mr. Mitchener worked for Messenger Corporation in Auburn for 43 years. Jack worked as a printer until 1980 and then he went out on the road working as a sales representative for Messenger until he retired in 2004. He was a member of the DeKalb County Ducks Unlimited, the Auburn Conservation Club, he taught firearms training for 4H and he was a member of the Auburn Moose Lodge for over 50 years.

Jack learned to love the outdoors growing up on Lake James where he was a member of the original Lake James Ski Club. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed making hunting knives and spending time at Dink's wood shop. He also collected fishing lures for many years. Jack was a longtime blood donor for the Red Cross and he and Mary enjoyed traveling out east every summer. Most of all Jack enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mary Mitchener of Auburn; daughter Laurie Mitchener-Oncheck of Fort Wayne; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Cheryl Ely of Waterloo and Rick and Susan Yingling of Fairmount, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gene; and nephew Jason.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at the Feller and Clark Funeral Home, 1860 South Center in Auburn. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the Mass at the church, from 9-10 a.m.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 500 East 7th Street in Auburn. Officiating the funeral Mass will be Father Timothy Wrozek of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Auburn.

Burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Auburn.
