2027 SAC Scholarship Eligibility and Selection Process

The 2027 SAC Scholarship Application submission period will open during the first quarter of 2027. Eligible students are encouraged to review the application requirements below and begin preparing the required materials, including transcripts and letters of recommendation.

To qualify, applicants must be currently enrolled in a mortuary science program or registered in a mortuary science program during the Fall 2027 academic semester. Students are strongly encouraged to practice as a licensed funeral director in Ohio.

Recipients of a scholarship are selected by the OFDA Scholastic Assistance Committee, following review of application and a personal interview if selected. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the award recipient's mortuary school and students can expect to see a credit on their tuition bill (timing of credit(s) is at the discretion of the mortuary school).

Please review eligibility and application requirements:

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled in a mortuary science program or registered in a mortuary science program during the Fall 2027 academic semester; if you have not yet started your mortuary science education but are enrolled for Fall 2027, please submit confirmation of your enrollment in lieu of a transcript.
  • Scholarship is to help cover the costs of mortuary school; preparatory programs are not eligible.
  • Applicant must provide two (2) letters of recommendations – one (1) must be from a licensed funeral service professional – only one (1) can be from current Mortuary college staff (if applicable).
  • Letters of recommendation need to be mailed to our office or sent to andrew@ofdaonline.org from the authors of the letter.
  • Selected applicants are required to participate in an in-person interview scheduled for historically during the month of August.  All interviews will be held at the OFDA office in Columbus, Ohio unless otherwise notified.
  • A completed application must include completed online application, copy of official college transcripts from ALL colleges attended, and two (2) letters of recommendation.

Important Note:
All components of the 2027 SAC Application—including transcripts and letters of recommendation—must be received by the stated deadline. To avoid losing your work due to website timeouts, OFDA strongly recommends preparing your online application responses in a separate program (such as Microsoft Word) and then copying and pasting them into the online application.

Please email Andrew Allman or call the OFDA office at (614) 486-5339 for any questions.
